NCCU ranked among top Historically Black Colleges in US
NC Central has been awarded a top spot in the 2017 rankings of HBCUs

DURHAM -- North Carolina Central University has been awarded a top spot in the 2017 rankings of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

Issued by the U.S. News & World Report, NCCU was named the third-highest rated public HBCU in the country.

It also ranked second-highest among North Carolina HBCUs among 72 in the listing.

"This is great news for North Carolina Central University," said NCCU Acting Chancellor Johnson O. Akinleye, Ph.D. "We are proud to continually be ranked among the best colleges and universities by the U.S. News & World Report rankings."

The rankings were based on student selectivity, admission test scores, peer assessment, retention and graduation rates, financial resources, alumni giving and faculty resources.

NCCU was also the ninth highest-ranked university in North Carolina among 105 other universities in the South.
