FORT BRAGG, N.C. (WTVD) -- Driver's licenses from five states will no longer be acceptable forms of IDs to get onto Fort Bragg.
The post will no longer accept licenses from Illinois, Missouri, Minnesota, New Mexico and Washington from people wanting a visitor's pass. The move is in compliance with the REAL ID Act, a Post-9/11 law passed by Congress in 2005 that basically cracks down on identity fraud by outlining tougher requirements to prove legal U.S. residency.
The licenses from the aforementioned five states have been labelled by the Department of Homeland Security as "non-compliant" with the law.
"Driver's licenses and identification cards issued by these states cannot be used to access not just Fort Bragg, but all federal facilities, to include other military installations," said Tom McCollum, Fort Bragg's Garrison spokesman, in a statement.
The change is effective immediately, as many states that have not complied with the federal law take advantage of an October enforcement extension. The following forms of ID are acceptable supplements to those states' driver's licenses:
United States Passport or United States Passport CardPermanent Resident Card/Alien Registration Receipt Card (Form I-551)Foreign passport with a temporary (I-551) stamp or temporary (I-551) printed notation on a machine readable immigrant visaEmployment authorization document that contains a photograph (Form I-766)In the case of a non-immigrant alien authorized to work for a specific employer incident to status, a foreign passport with Form I-94 or Form I-94A bearing the same name as the passport and containing an endorsement of the alien's non-immigrant status, as long as the endorsement has not yet expired and the proposed employment is not in conflict with any restrictions or limitations identified on the form.Current/valid driver's license from a Real ID Act-compliant state or state with a REAL ID Act extension for implementationDriver License or ID card issued by Federal or Local Government Agencies meeting REAL ID standards with photo, name, DOB, gender, height, eye color & addressSchool identification card with a photographU.S. Military or draft recordU.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Cards* Transportation Worker Identification CardNative American Tribal DocumentFor more information on the REAL ID Act, and the impact it will have on 2018 airline travel, visit this site: https://www.dhs.gov/
