WAKE FOREST, NC (WTVD) -- Police say a 14-year-old boy was sexually assaulted along a Wake Forest greenway Monday afternoon.

The boy reported a man approached him around 3:30 p.m. along the Sanford Creek Greenway - in the area of Prairie Smoke Street and Sanford Creek Avenue - and struck up a conversation before forcing him into a wooded area.

The suspect was described as a white male, in his teens or early 20s, with patchy dark facial hair, standing 6' to 6'4" tall, weighing 160-170 pounds. He was wearing a black long-sleeve shirt, blue jeans and light-colored tennis shoes.

Police are asking that no one -- not even adults -- walk or bike alone on the greenway.  They are also asking parents to talk with their children about the attack.

"We're just processing the information at this point trying to not over react but react responsibly. And, um, so we're not sure exactly what we'll do, but we have two children ourselves and we will be taking the appropriate measures to try and ensure their safety," said Jim Eck, who lives in the neighborhood next to the trail.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Wake Forest Police Department Tip Line at (919) 435-9610. All calls are confidential.
