Tornadoes are more deadly by night than by day
A study from Northern Illinois University found that most tornado-related deaths happened between midnight and 6 am, according to AccuWeather.

Tornadoes are dangerous weather events, but are even more so at night. According to AccuWeather, tornadoes that form between midnight and 6 a.m. are 2.5 times more likely to kill than those that form during the day.

More than 80 people have been killed by the top three deadliest nocturnal tornadoes. The deadliest happened in 1998 in Tuscaloosa, Ala., where 32 people were killed. The best way to keep safe in the event of a daytime or nighttime tornado is to stay connected to severe weather alerts, according to AccuWeather.
