NCSU suspends players over BB gun incident
Seven football players are now suspended from this weekend's game against Louisville following an incident involving BB guns last week.

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- NC State head football coach Dave Doeren said Monday seven players have been suspended from Saturday's game against Louisville following an incident involving BB guns at their off-campus residence last week.

Johnathan Alston, Jerod Fernandez, Josh Jones, Justin Jones, Pharoah McKever, Jumichael Ramos, and Mike Stevens will not play.

Redshirt players Tyler Jones, Kalen McCain, Deyshawn Middleton, Terronne Prescod and Maurice Trowell have been placed on team probation.

"These are good young men who made a mistake in not recognizing that this activity could have resulted in someone being injured," said Doeren. "We have discussed this with them and they understand that they are being held responsible for their actions. The information was referred to the university's Office of Student Conduct as well. Our players admitted their mistake and we will help them learn from it."

The comment suggests the BB gun was fired-- a possible violation of Raleigh's city ordinance banning the discharge of any type of weapon.

A similar incident at East Carolina University left three football players suspended indefinitely after they were cited for firing a BB gun within city limits.
