Pedestrian struck in Fayetteville, later dies

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- The Fayetteville Police Department is investigating after a pedestrian struck on Raeford Road near the Skibo Road intersection died from his injuries.

It happened around 5:40 p.m. Monday.

The pedestrian, 54-year-old Vernon Maurice Walker, was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, but doctors could not save him.

Police say it appeared that Walker was attempting to cross Raeford Road when he stepped in front of a vehicle driven by 22-year-old Justin Soles.

There's no word on any charges.
