DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Durham Police Department said Wednesday that it has made an arrest in a 2024 hit-and-run incident that left a bicyclist dead just minutes from his house.
The crash on May 27, 2024, left Frederick Howell, 53, dead after he was hit from behind around 9:50 p.m. in the 800 block of Ellis Road.
Nearly two years later, police arrested Damien Holloway, 46, of Durham, and charged him with felony hit and run resulting in death and driving while license under impaired revocation.

Holloway was taken into custody on Feb. 12.
Howell's family members told ABC11 in 2024 that he was well known in the Bull City and many knew him by his nickname.
"When he was born, he was so fat," said Howell. "My cousin say he looked like a peach, so they called him Fruity."
"He will be missed a lot, from friends and family," Howell's daughter Alexia Powell said at the time. "I know that. He didn't get hit that far from the house. I could have picked him up. My uncle could have picked him up."
Speed appeared to be a factor in the crash, police said.
