Millbrook student faces judge on loaded-gun-at-school charges

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Malcolm McInytre quickly left court, along with nearly a dozen supporters, after being arraigned on Thursday afternoon.

Raleigh Police said the 18-year-old student-athlete brought a gun, loaded with bullets, to Millbrook Magnet High School on Wednesday, and it led to a Code Red lockdown.

McIntyre was released on a $100,000 bond.

He showed up to court with about 11 people, but did not answer any of our questions after the hearing.

The teenager is facing four charges, including a felony for having a gun on an educational property.

A School Resource Officer (SRO) found the weapon.

Thursday on campus, there was heightened security.

The Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) said it was made aware of another threat circulating in text messages and on social media.

The principal said in a message to families, "We take any and all potential threats to our school seriously," and that law enforcement was "investigating to evaluate the credibility of the threat."

The National Association of School Resource Officers said that nationwide, it is becoming more difficult for SROs to keep campuses safe in this country, and parents are being encouraged to take responsible cautions at home.

"Whether it's a school shooter or it's a student bringing a firearm to school, more often than not comes from home where it's been unsecured," said NASRO Executive Director Mo Canady.

It remains unclear how McIntyre got hold of a weapon or why he allegedly brought it to school.

Police said the incident remains under investigation.
