Driver charged in Raleigh hit-and-run that left woman dead

Pedestrian killed in Raleigh hit-and-run on New Bern Avenue

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- A man has been charged in a hit-and-run crash that left a woman dead last month.

The crash happened on May 15 in the 3100 block of New Bern Avenue in Raleigh.

Nicole Shawnette White, 54, .was attempting to cross the road outside of a crosswalk when she was hit by a car that left the scene.

On Friday, Raleigh Police said 25-year-old Isaiah Deshon Gray had been identified as the driver.

RPD's Crash Reconstruction Unit took out arrest warrants and contacted the Wayne County Probation Office to coordinate the Gray's arrest. Authorities recovered Gray's cell phone and the car involved in the crash. The car still had damage from the crash, RPD said.

Gray was charged with felony hit and run, and probation violation

He is being held in the Wayne County Jail, awaiting extradition to Raleigh.

"We express our gratitude to the Wayne County Probation Officers for their collaboration in locating and apprehending the suspect," RPD said in a release. "This partnership demonstrates the Raleigh Police Department's commitment to working alongside other law enforcement agencies to hold individuals accountable for violent crimes in our city."
