RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- The woman accused of shooting two attorneys outside the Wake County Courthouse on Friday had been in court with them just hours earlier in a long-running legal dispute, according to records.

Raleigh police have identified the suspect as 57-year-old Gwendolyn White. She faces attempted murder charges.

ABC11's I-Team found White attended a hearing Friday morning tied to a civil case she filed against the Rolesville Police Department in 2022.

White sued the department seeking body camera video of an incident she said occurred in her home.

A judge dismissed that case in January 2026.

Friday's court hearing was scheduled to determine whether the case would be reinstated.

Police say White became "belligerent" during the proceeding and left the courthouse shortly before the shooting.

Connection to the victims

Court records identify the victims as attorneys Mary Harris and Jeffrey Whitley.

The Town of Rolesville confirmed the attorneys were representing the town in the civil case involving White. Their names are also listed on their law firm's website, Fox Rothschild.

Investigators say all three were in the same courtroom on the 10th floor before the shooting unfolded outside.

Alleged sequence of events

According to police, White left the courthouse, went to her vehicle, and retrieved a handgun.

Investigators say she then approached Harris and Whitley in an alley outside the courthouse and shot both of them before officers took her into custody.

The I-Team also found White has filed more than a dozen civil actions since 2022, according to the North Carolina courts database.

Ongoing investigation

Authorities continue to investigate what led up to the shooting and have not released additional details about a possible motive.

The conditions of the two attorneys have not been made public.

White is also hospitalized, though officials have not said why.
