RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Members of the community held a prayer walk Sunday to remember Akiel Denkins, the man shot and killed by a Raleigh police officer Feb. 29.

Sunday's walk which had over 50 people started at Christ Our King church on Garner Road. It began after services end at the memorial for Denkins, which is set up on Bragg Street.

Organizers call it "a walk for perspective and peace."

"We feel like the city needs to be healed as a whole, and the community needs to be healed as a whole," said Pastor James White of Christ Our King. "We can't think in terms of us/them, these are our neighbors and our family members."

Denkins was shot Monday on Bragg Street in southeast Raleigh as police were trying to serve him a felony warrant.
