RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Police say a cat that attacked a resident in the 500 block of East Cabarrus Street late last week has tested positive for rabies.

The man reported the animal bit his trouser leg and pierced his skin.

The medium-haired brown tabby was captured by animal control and sent for testing.

Officers have returned to the area to alert residents and remind them to make sure their pet's rabies vaccinations are up to date.
