Raleigh police investigate kidnapping
Police say a 6-year-old girl was kidnapped from her apartment in the 4700 block of Dansey Drive in Raleigh early Wednesday.

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- It's a case of kidnapping with an unusual ending.

Raleigh police are on the hunt for a suspect they say kidnapped a 6-year-old, but then brought her back home. Even with a family reunited before they even knew what happened, the nightmare is far from over.

Raleigh police say the suspect somehow entered the girl's home in the 4700 block of Dansey Drive in the Mission Capital Crossing Apartments early Wednesday morning.

They say he then took her to a nearby location outside. That's when police will only say the suspect then "engaged in actions suggestive of further illegal intent."

Around 3:45 a.m., he brought her home and she woke up her mother who called police. Officers canvassed the neighborhood the entire day and left around 9 p.m.

One of the residents at the apartments, a father himself, said police asked him if he noticed anyone suspicious lately.

"He asked me if I've seen any peeping toms any suspicious activity, did I see anyone lurking in the back buildings anything like that, but I didn't see anything," said Adam Lee.

ABC11 also spoke to a woman in the neighborhood. She did not want to be identified, but said she wondered if she saw the suspect.

"There were two neighbors in front of where I was," said the woman, "They came running pointing at that car saying 'that was the person, that was the person'. The police who were on the other side were unable to understand what the two people were shouting about and when they reached the people screaming, it was too late. Immediately the gray Honda Odyssey drove off."

She said that happened around 4 p.m., almost 12 hours after the crime was reported. There's no word from police if that, in fact, was a close call with the suspect or even if a Honda Odyssey is what he drives.

What police did release is a very limited description of the suspect. He is described as a white or Hispanic male, of average height and weight. He has close cropped hair, short facial hair and was wearing a white t-shirt.

Anyone with information on the case should call Raleigh CrimeStoppers at (919) 834-HELP.
