Police are investigating after a Raleigh man was murdered

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- The Raleigh Police Department has arrested a suspect and charged him with murder after a man was found dead about 7:15 a.m. Wednesday morning at the intersection of S. Blount and E. Lenoir streets.

Homicide detectives have charged Charles Douglas Mitchell, 25, of Raleigh with murder in connection with the death of Christopher James Locus, 23, of Raleigh.

Mitchell has been taken into custody and is being detained at the Wake County Detention center.

The two men knew each other and the shooting was not random, police said.

An employee of a store across the street from the crime scene said she has sympathy for Locus.

"A lot of the Shaw students said there was gunfire last night after 12," said Brenda Locklear. "I was scared because of the neighborhood I work in. And the first thing that came to my mind was, that is someone's child. That is someone's son."
