A Raleigh man spoke with ABC11 after a terrifying experience

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Adrian Arroyo said he thanks God he's still with his family today after being shot in his lower back at Green Castle Townhomes in Raleigh last month.

Arroyo said he was leaving one of the townhomes after having dinner with friend when a man approached from behind a dumpster yelling incoherently.

"I never understood what he was saying because he was four or five feet away from me, and he was getting ready to lower his gun. That's when I ran," Arroyo said in Spanish.

He said that's when he was shot in his lower back, the bullet severing his lower intestine, while two of his friends were robbed.

Arroyo says he's grateful he didn't end up paralyzed but that the bullet split his small intestine.

His son, Uriel Arroyo, said he's grateful an ambulance was nearby and that his father was able to receive rapid medical attention.

"Hug your loved ones every morning you leave, every morning you go to work, school," Uriel said. "We've been through some problems as a family. This whole situation is like has brought us closer."

The Arroyo family is asking for donations, you can find their Go Fund Me page HERE.
