SELMA, NC (WTVD) -- U.S. Highway 70 was shut down in Selma for a while Tuesday morning while workers cleaned up a large fuel spill.
It happened when a Jeep slammed into a tractor-trailer and ruptured a diesel fuel tank on the big rig.
70 was closed in both directions between I-95 and JR Road.
About 300 gallons of fuel spilled. Workers put down sand to soak up the diesel and then scooped it up.
The Selma Police Department said the driver of the Jeep slid through a red light. The Jeep was totaled, but nobody was seriously hurt. The driver of the Jeep was not cited because police said rain and slick pavement helped cause the crash.
