Woman killed in Smithfield duplex fire; 2 others displaced, officials say

SMITHFIELD, N.C. (WTVD) -- A woman was killed in an overnight fire, Smithfield fire officials said.

Firefighters responded to North Sussex Drive overnight and found a duplex on fire.

Smithfield fire officials told ABC11 breaking news crews at the scene that one woman died in the fire.

Two adults and a dog were able to get out safely.

The Johnston County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
