Panthers' Christian McCaffrey breaks 84-yard run after flipping for early TD

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Christian McCaffrey exploded through the left side of line for a Carolina Panthers record 84-yard touchdown run on the team's first play of the second half Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars to become the first player with multiple 75-plus yard rushes in a season since Jacksonville's Leonard Fournette in 2017.

McCaffrey had a 76-yard touchdown run two weeks ago in a victory at Arizona. He now has two of the three longest runs in team history.

On his latest, the eighth pick of the 2017 draft reached a maximum speed of 21.95 mph, his fastest touch since the 2018 season. He literally ran away from Jaguars defenders.

With a 5-yard touchdown run and 18-yard touchdown catch in the first half McCaffrey is up to seven touchdowns in the first five games, tying Stephen Davis (2005) for the most during that span.

The 5-yarder was also a highlight-reel pay, as McCaffrey went up and over Jaguars defender Tre Herndon at the 2-yard line and completed the touchdown run with a flying flip that landed him flat on his back in the end zone.

It was the third straight game McCaffrey, who entered the game as the NFL leading rusher with 411 yards, had a rushing touchdown. That's the longest streak of his career.
