Investigators said the firearm was not properly secured at the child's home.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WTVD) -- A South Carolina mother has been charged after deputies said a 6-year-old child was found with a loaded gun on a school bus earlier this week.
Investigators said the firearm was not properly secured at the child's home. The child's mother, Destar Hall, is charged with unlawful conduct toward a child.
Hall's husband, Tony Hall, said he regrets how the situation unfolded and believes additional steps should have been taken to remove the gun from the home.
"I felt like I could police it myself and that was the problem and that's the step we should have took," Hall said. "Because we looked at it as a toy. It looked like a toy for real."
According to reports, the 6-year-old and three siblings are now in emergency custody with their biological father.
Authorities have not released additional details about how the gun was discovered on the school bus.
