BAYTOWN, TX -- A teen girl is charged after allegedly posting a video on social media she took in the bathroom of a Baytown, Texas high school.
Investigators with Goose Creek ISD say the incident involved two girls in a school bathroom at Sterling High School. Kaylee Barnhill, 17, is now charged with improper photography in a bathroom or changing room.
"They have their phones out everywhere. Class, hallways, everywhere. It's probably not surprising but for the girl she is upset," junior Isaac Lara said.
"Being a junior and being in trouble, it's not good," parent Greg Jimenez added. "It's going to follow you for the rest of your life."
The victim is also a junior at the school and police say Barnhill took a picture of her using the restroom last week. She is accused of posting it on the social media app "Snapchat", where it was shared by others. Charging documents accuse Barnhill of invading her classmates privacy during the incident.
Lucinda Sanchez was outside the school picking up her daughter when she learned about the incident.
"That's very concerning. These children nowadays. They just don't think what they're doing," Sanchez said. "No matter what the parents tell them they still go do these crazy things and not think about later on it will be on their record. Very disturbing."
Many parents and students had not learned of the charges yet but said it's a reminder of the importance of talking with their kids about social media and what they should and shouldn't be posting.
The district says Barnhill is no longer on Sterling's campus. She is expected in court later this week.
