UNC Chapel Hill holds moment of silence for Faith Hedgepeth
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WTVD) -- The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill marked the two-year anniversary of the murder of student Faith Hedgepeth Monday with a moment of silence on campus in her honor.
Hedgepeth, a 19-year-old from Warren County, was a member of the Haliwa-Saponi American Indian Tribe majoring in biology who wanted to eventually become a pediatrician.
No arrests have been made in the killing. Last week, Chapel Hill police released a large batch of new information in the case in hopes of developing new leads.
The documents included the autopsy, which shows the brutal way in which the teen was murdered in her off-campus apartment in 2012.
The autopsy says Hedgepeth was beaten to death in an extremely violent attack. Her family told ABC11 she was raped.
"Anyone reading about this story or watching it on TV that saw anything, heard anything, knows anything - no matter how seemingly insignificant it may be - we want them to call us," said Chapel Hill Police Chief Chris Blue.
There is over $40,000 in reward money available.
