Water main break closes roadway at Interstate 440

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- An eight-inch water line break closed part of a Raleigh roadway at Interstate 440 Thursday morning.

It happened just before 5 a.m. along the eastbound lanes of Lake Boone Trail near the I-440 on-ramp and Horton Street.

Crews also had to deal with a sidewalk that collapsed due to the water and mud that has gathered at the bottom of a hill on Lake Boone Trail.

The road reopened early Thursday afternoon.

Public Works still doesn't know why the line broke.
