11-year-old wounded in accidental shooting

PIKEVILLE, North Carolina (WTVD) -- The Wayne County Sheriff's Office says an 11-year-old child was hurt Wednesday in an accidental shooting.

It happened at a home on Canary Lane just after 2 p.m.

The child's father was cleaning a gun when it went off. The bullet hit a metal gun safe and deflected, hitting the boy.

The boy's injuries are described as non-life-threatening.

The investigation continues and no charges have been filed.
