Tornado touches down in Lee County
LEE COUNTY, NC (WTVD) -- The National Weather Service confirms a tornado touched down in Lee County just before 6 p.m. Saturday evening knocking down trees and damaging roofs.
It happened in the Cumnock area just northwest of Sanford. No injuries were reported.
The twister was part of a huge group of thunderstorms that moved across the ABC11 viewing area Saturday evening. ABC11 Eyewitness pictures and videos showed just how much damage the severe weather caused.

A tornado warning was also issued for Wake, Chatham, and Harnett counties earlier Saturday evening, but it did not appear one touched down anywhere other than Lee County.
"You could see the spinning and the rotating coming right through the woods," said eyewitness Elizabeth Branch. "I looked out the door to my left and I seen this cloud coming down and they started twirling really and I just looked inside and told everybody to get in the corner we were all scared."
The Director of Emergency Management Shane Seagroves told ABC11 a barn did catch fire after being struck by lightning. The Lemons Springs Fire Department responded to fire at 4229 Rocky Fork Church Rd.
In addition to the tornado warnings, most of the counties in our viewing area were under severe thunderstorm warnings until late Saturday night. These storms caused thousands to lose power across the state .
The good news is the severe weather is gone and Sunday looks to be a beautiful day.
