ROBBINS, NC (WTVD) -- Workers for a company doing contract work for the NC Department of Transportation were setting up a wood chipper outside Robbins on Thursday morning when a car ran into one of them.

Fifty-year-old Tony Woods from Hamptonville, NC, was killed.

The driver of the car was flown to UNC Chapel Hill for treatment and was in serious condition.

The Aberdeen Times reports it happened just before 8 a.m. on Plank Road near the intersection with North Rockingham Street.

The Yadkinville-based crew was setting up for tree trimming for the NCDOT when the accident happened.

Investigators said it appeared the driver of the car suffered some sort of medical problem before the crash.
