Authorities say Matt Gfeller was playing for Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem Friday night when he was hurt.
The sophomore linebacker was on life support until saturday night. He died about five hours later.
A Chapel Hill High School football player died almost two week ago after a scrimmage.
Atlas Fraley called 911 complaining of cramps all over his body, following football practice. He later died and officials say it was due to dehydration.
Fraley's death is under investigation.
