Authithorities are investigating a powdery substance found in a package at the Social Security Administration building.

The building was evacuated Tuesday morning and HAZMAT was called to the Wake Forest Road location. No customers were inside the building at the time.

HAZMAT took the package to examine it. They are not sure if it was mailed or if it was placed in a drop box.

Authorities are also reviewing surveillance video.

The person who discovered the powder was examined and is OK.

The office reopened to the public around 1:00 p.m.

"We have not yet received any information from the lab regarding the nature of the powder-like substance," said Brian Simpson, public affairs specialist with the social security office.
