Detectives say the body of a newborn female was discovered in a garbage truck which was collecting trash in the area.
An autopsy of the remains was conducted by the Onslow County Medical Examiner's Office and also reviewed by the State Medical Examiner's Office.
The Medical Examiners determined that the body was that of a full-term newborn but were unable to determine if the baby was born alive due to the state of decomposition of the remains.
Following an investigation, officers were able to determine that the body had come from Browning's apartment.
Through the course of the investigation, several search warrants were served and evidence was obtained which positively identified Browning as the mother of the baby.
When initially questioned, Browning lied to investigators. Authorities say Browning continued to be uncooperative throughout the investigation. The incident is still under investigation.
Browning is currently under $9,000 bond.
Detectives say they have information that others may be involved with the birthing of the child and ask that anyone with additional information in this case please contact the Onslow County Sheriff's Office at 455-3113.
