Visitation service held for Long

A visitation service was held Wednesday for Former North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Jim Long.

Long died on Monday after collapsing on his way to a meeting on January 21. It was later revealed he suffered a stroke.

Hundreds of mourners lined up at the Brown Wynn Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon and evening.

A memorial service for Long is scheduled for Thursday at the Hayes Barton Baptist Church in Raleigh at 2 p.m.

On Friday, a funeral and burial will be held in Long's hometown of Burlington.

Long served as head of the North Carolina Department of Insurance for 24 years and retired last month. Funeral arrangements have not been finalized.
