According to Edgecombe County Sheriff James Knight, the body is described as an African American female at about 5 feet, 6 to 7 inches tall and weighing around 150 pounds with short hair.
The cause of death has not yet been determined.
Investigators say they have a possible identification pending confirmation by the medical examiner.
The investigation is ongoing at this time.
