New website to aid in government transparency

RALEIGH NCOpenBook.govis described as a transparency website for searching state contracts and grants.

On her first day in office, Perdue signed an executive order to create NC OpenBook.

"In the 21st century online accessibility and transparency should be the standard for public information," Perdue said. "We're going to let the sun shine in on state contracts."

NCOpenBook.gov provides a database that anyone can search. There are about 2,500 state contracts and 5,000 grants included in the database.

The Office of State Budget and Management is working with state agencies and departments to streamline contract databases. The purpose is to provide North Carolina with a comprehensive searchable database online.

That database will live on NC OpenBook.gov.

NCOpenBook.gov will also feature detailed information about state agency performance measures and planning.
