A judge set a $10 million bond for 19-year-old Stephen Oates Monday. The bond is for first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon. Prior to Monday's hearing, Oates had a bond for other robbery related offenses.

He is charged in the death of Duke University graduate student Abhijit Mahato. In January 2008, Mahato was found dead inside his Durham apartment just blocks from Duke's campus.

About two dozen friends and Duke faculty showed up to the hearing in support of Mahato.

Also charged in Mahato's murder is Lawrence Lovette. Lovette is also charged in the murder of UNC student body president Eve Carson.
