A little girl was standing outside at an apartment complex when she was grazed by a bullet apparently fired from a passing vehicle. Witnesses said the car was a small green 4-door compact.
"When they heard shots the children got down, they tried to run in the house," neighbor Shalanda Horton said. "But Tanaja got hit in her foot before she got in the house."
The child's is recovering at Duke Hospital.
Horton says she knows the victim's family and says a lot of kids live and play in the neighborhood.
"Maybe 15, 20 kids were out here and it's going to happen again. It's going to happen again. It is," she said. "I'm ready to get from out of here. It's getting too bad, the same thing happened last summer."
Back in August, another drive by gunman fired a shot that grazed a Southern High School rising senior's head.
"They need to stop, because none of those boys live out here," Horton said. "This is where we live, where our kids got to grow up and it's just ridiculous."
She says she is counting on police to do a thorough investigation and arrest whoever injured the student.
Investigators are now looking for the shooter. Anyone with information is asked to call Investigator A. Cristaldi at (919) 560-4281x29123, or Crime Stoppers at (919) 683-1200.
