Many have wondered who the winner was after lottery officials announced the winning ticket was sold in the Tarheel state over the weekend.
Wilson said his family regularly plays the lottery.
"My dad will sometimes buy tickets and let my sister, brother and me choose one that is ours," Wilson said.
Wilson took the lump sum cash payment of $42.4 million, which after taxes is worth approximately $28.8 million. The 27-year old wasn't sure what he will do with the money.
"I didn’t believe my dad when he told me that I had won and I think I’m still in disbelief," Wilson said.
Wilson plans to go to graduate school this fall and said the cash will come in handy for tuition and other expenses.
