Police described one scar on the boy's upper left thigh as about four inches long and one and a half inches wide. They said the boy also had what appeared to be older burn scars on his legs.
The Cumberland County Department of Social Services began investigating Thomas after the child's teacher noticed the injuries. The DSS findings were referred to Sheriff's Detectives as a child neglect case.
Thomas is charged with two counts of felony child abuse inflicting bodily injury, one count of maiming of limbs and one felony count of neglect. Detectives said additional charges may also surface.
She is being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $100,000 bond and will make her first court appearance on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
