A Halifax man is recovering from a gunshot wound after chasing burglary suspects from his home. The homeowner told sheriff's deputies he arrived home just before 11 p.m. Tuesday and noticed something strange. He said his lights were on and his front door was locked.

The victim said that was odd because he didn't leave any lights on and the front door should have been open. So he went to the back of the house and as he got near the back steps, he told deputies five men ran from inside his house.

The man said he turned to run after the suspects but one of them turned around and fired shots at him. The homeowner was hit once in the leg.

Deputies searched the area and tracked the suspects through the woods using bloodhounds. Authorities believe the men escaped in a car that was hidden near the woods.

No arrests have been made and the homeowner was treated at the hospital for his wound.
