Group raising money for victims

EDGECOMBE COUNTY The group called MOMS, which stands for Missing Or Murdered Sisters, held a news conference Saturday to share their stories.

Six African American women have been killed in Edgecombe County since 2005. Three are still missing.

"It's worse than an all of the sudden accident; say for instance a car accident that's over right then," Jackie Wiggins mother of one of the women said. "It's taking every day one day at a time. In my case my daughter was missing for five months and every time my phone or door bell rang, I was hoping it was some news or my daughter and it wasn't, so I know their pain."

The group also held a cookout Saturday and gave away school supplies to children.

They're hoping fundraisers will generate enough money to keep billboards up about the cases and help hire a search team.
