Police released the video, taken in downtown Raleigh last month, of an unidentified man. Police say he was last seen with 48-year-old Jurgen Dietmar Cheston.
Officers discovered Cheston's body inside his Raleigh home on the evening of August 21.
Cheston's co-workers became worried after he did not report to work for a week, so they called police. He was a grant writer for the North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice.
Police do not know exactly when Cheston died and a cause of death was not released.
His pickup truck was discovered the next day near his home but the license tag had been removed.
