The fox was tested at the State Laboratory of Public Health in Raleigh and they confirmed it was infected with the rabies virus.
Officials advise residents to use caution when dealing with any animal that may be suspicious.
They urge pet owners to always vaccinate pets and seek help immediately if anyone is bitten by any animal and notify officials as soon as possible.
