It happened near Fidelity Bank at 919 U.S. Highway 70 East, just off of Yeargan Road, at 10:15 a.m.
Detectives told ABC11 that Cameron Vernon Albright, 28, of Garner, was sitting at the Yeargan Road/Hwy 70 intersection when a man approached his pickup and asked for a lighter.
He then shot Albright in the upper body.
Albright was able to drive himself into the parking lot at the Fidelity Bank and go inside to ask for help. He was taken to WakeMed hospital for treatment. Officers said it didn't appear his injuries were life threatening.
Police used search dogs and a helicopter to search for the shooter. They found a suspect in the area of Vandora Springs Rd. and Methodist Dr. matching the man's description.
When they tried to talk to him, they say the man ran and was captured after a foot chase. They've now charged 20-year-old Muhammad Aleem with felony assault. Detectives say the motive for the attack appears to be robbery.
Anyone who witnessed the shooting or who has additional information is asked to contact the Garner Police Investigative Division at (919) 772-8810.
