Woman sentenced in school bus stop accident

WAKE COUNTY Police say 84-year-old Geraldine Baron Deitz passed a stopped school bus on North Hills Drive in August. She ending up hitting and killing 6-year-old Ashley Ramos-Hernandez who had just gotten off the bus.

Ramos-Hernandez was taken to WakeMed where she later died. She attended Green Elementary off Six Forks Road.

Deitz was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and passing a stopped school bus.

On Thursday, a judge fined Deitz $500 and told her to give up her driver's license for a year.

Deitz is also on 18 months of unsupervised probation.

If Deitz wants her license back she'll have to undergo a medical review.
