Saginaw rethinks marijuana moratorium

SAGINAW Mayor Greg Branch tells the Saginaw News that the City Council likely will drop the proposed moratorium and instead move ahead quickly to rewrite zoning language to comply with a state law legalizing the drug for medical purposes.

The council on Dec. 21 postponed a vote on the moratorium vote after 30 medical marijuana advocates from across Michigan packed the council chambers to voice concerns that the city was attempting to supersede state law.

Backers of the freeze say their intent was to stop business prospectors from capitalizing on Saginaw's lack of medical marijuana zoning while planners rewrote the ordinance.
