Tanker truck overturns in Johnston Co

Emergency crews have pulled a truck upright after a tractor-trailer crash in Johnston County.

Officials say the tanker truck carrying fuel overturned on U.S. Highway 701 near Devil's Racetrack Road.

It appears the truck's headlights went out just as the driver neared a curve in the fog.

"His headlights did go out on the truck approximately 100, 150 yards back down the highway. This is a slight curve," explained Strickland's Crossroads Fire Chief H.M. Johnson.

Luckily, the force of the crash did not puncture the tanker, and the thousands of gallons of fuel it was carrying didn't spill.

Firefighters were able to transfer the fuel to another truck before wrecker trucks pulled it upright.

The driver of the big rig was not hurt.
