Lance Cpl. Patrick Xavier Jr., 24, of Pembroke Pines, Fla., died May 18 as a result of a hostile incident while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan.
Xavier was a rifleman assigned to 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 7, I Marine Expeditionary Force Forward. Xavier joined the Marine Corps in January 2009, and was promoted to the rank of lance corporal on March 1, 2010.
He deployed to Afghanistan in January 2010.
His awards include the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Afghanistan Campaign Medal.
