Army treating soldier death as homicide

FORT BRAGG, N.C.

According to the Army's original news release, Spc. Morganne McBeth, a 19-year-old 82nd Airborne Division paratrooper from Fredericksburg, Virginia, died of non-combat related injuries in western Iraq July 2.

The death was originally reported as an accident, but according to a report Wednesday in the Fayetteville Observer, military officials say they now believe McBeth was likely murdered.

She was a combat medic with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division.

No suspects have been named and no charges have been filed.
