Former Wake Tech president found guilty

WAKE COUNTY The charges stem from actuations that he placed a nail behind a tire of the childrens' maternal grandfather's car back in November 2010. The same car his three granddaughters -- ages, 9, 7 and 3 -- were riding in.

Cary Police said Howell put his three grandchildren at risk and damaged personal property.

On Monday, a district court judge sentenced Howell to two consecutive 60-day sentences, which were suspended for unsupervised probation and 75 hours of community service. Howell also can have only supervised visits with his three grandchildren.

Howell has said the actuations are false and just part of a custody dispute between his son and ex-wife.

Howell was Wake Tech's president for 23 years and later retired in 2003.
