RALEIGH --Raleigh police say a man has been charged with drunken driving after a pedestrian lying on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard was hit and killed.Police spokesman Jim Sughrue said in a news release that 47-year-old Freddie Lane died about 2 a.m. Sunday. Investigators do not know why he was lying in the road.
Police have charged 18-year-old Raul Gutierrez-Leija with driving while intoxicated, driving without a license and having an open container in the car. Jail officials say Gutierrez-Leija remained in the Wake County jail Sunday on an immigration hold.
There was no information about whether he has an attorney.
Sughrue says there was no indication that Lane was hit by any other cars before being struck by the car driven by Gutierrez-Leija.
The wreck remains under investigation.
