Raleigh police officer involved in accident

A Raleigh police officer was involved in an early morning collision Tuesday that left one car in a nearby creek.The accident happened at Capital Boulevard and Fenton Street just before 2 a.m.

Officers say a police cruiser and a BMW traveling north on Capital Boulevard collided, spending the BMW into a small creek, while the police car came to a stop on the side of the road.

There were three people pulled out of the BMW. The driver of the car was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. It is unclear if the other two people were injured.

The officer in the police cruiser was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The name of the officer and the other people involved have not been released.

Officers say the crash was unrelated to any police chase and speed was not a factor.

Further details about the accident have not been released at this time.
