Baby rescued in standoff

WILSON

Police say a domestic dispute escalated to the point a SWAT team was called in Thursday.

It happened at a mobile home off Highway 42 Thursday afternoon. According to police, Diane Mann, who was inside the home with her son, his girlfriend and their infant child, called 911.

Mann told police her 22-year-old son, Michael Charles Sasser, threw an infant car seat out of the back door, shot it and then said he would not leave the home alive.

Sasser reportedly told his mother he was going to shoot himself before going to jail.

Mann was locked inside the home with Sasser, his girlfriend and their infant child. She told police Sasser would not let them out.

Sasser eventually came outside and surrendered the infant to officers. He was then taken into custody. The baby is with Social Services.

Sasser is charged with discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling, injury to personal property and damage to real property. He is being held under a $25,000 bond.
