School bus crashes at middle school

RALEIGH

It happened around 3 p.m. at West Millbrook Middle School located at 8115 Strickland Road.

An eyewitness told ABC11 a wrong-way driver was headed toward the bus on Strickland Road and the bus swerved to avoid hitting the vehicle. The bus then crashed into several vehicles.

A driver who was waiting in the carpool line to pickup his granddaughter says his tires were knocked off his car during the crash.

"Next thing I know, I got hit, knocked my wheel off," driver Bill Anderson said. "I looked up and it was the bus. He hit the car in front of me."

Raleigh police spokesperson Jim Sughrue says no students were on the bus at the time of the crash. Injuries are reported; however, none of them are serious. Several people were transported to the hospital.

Strickland Road was closed in the vicinity of West Millbrook Middle School but reopened just before 4:30 p.m.

Police have not filed any charges in the incident.
